What Tarbiyah means
Growing as a person — not just a coder.
Tarbiyah (tar-bee-yah) is the Arabic word for upbringing. It's how a parent raises a child — how a teacher raises a learner. Not just what they know, but who they become.
Plenty of online courses teach you to code, design, or analyse data. Most don't teach you the harder things: how to disagree kindly. How to credit a teammate. When to stop and rest. Why you're building this in the first place.
We think those are skills too. They're the ones that decide whether your tech career becomes a blessing or a burden.

The five themes
We focus on five things.
Every Tarbiyah session is built around one of these themes. Simple. Practical. Repeated until they become habit.
Niyyah
Intention
Before every project: why are you building this? Who does it serve? Set the intention — then build.
Adab
Good manners
How you ask. How you disagree. How you credit. How you receive feedback. The small things that shape every team.
Sabr
Patience
Code doesn't compile. The class is hard. You feel behind. Sabr is the muscle that gets you to week 12.
Shukr
Gratitude
Notice what worked. Thank the teammate. Recognise the help. Shukr keeps you grounded when you finally ship.
Ihsan
Excellence
Doing your work beautifully — even the parts no-one sees. Ihsan is what separates 'done' from 'done well'.

Common questions
About Tarbiyah.
Is this Islamic studies?
No. We're a tech course. But the teachers are Muslim, our students are mostly Muslim, and the values we focus on (kindness, patience, gratitude, excellence) come from the Islamic tradition. Non-Muslim students are welcome too — the themes are universal.
Does Tarbiyah cost extra?
No. It's included in every course at no extra charge. We won't teach skills without it.
What if my child isn't Muslim?
All welcome. The five themes (intention, manners, patience, gratitude, excellence) are values every family wants for their children. We use the Arabic words because the IlmAI community is mostly Muslim — but the ideas belong to everyone.
How long is the Tarbiyah session each week?
15 minutes. Saturday, before the live tech lesson. Short on purpose — we want it remembered, not endured.
Who teaches the Tarbiyah session?
Your regular class teacher. We don't outsource character to a separate person. Code and adab come from the same mouth.
